Prompting Hierarchy
When a child is learning a skill, use should provide prompting support to ensure your child is successful. Use the most supportive prompt first and fade to least supportive. Flip the order when a child has mastered a skill to support the child in completing skills independently.

- Physical Prompt: Full Prompt (hand over hand support), then Partial Prompt (lightly tap child's elbow) (Most Supportive)
- Model Prompt: Model the action for the child and then give the child an opportunity to imitate you
- Gesture Prompt: Pointing or using gestures to help the child
- Positional Prompt: Move the item closer to the child or place it where they are likely to choose (Least Supportive)

Definitions to Know When Using the App:
- Requesting appropriately: Verbal communication (word attempts or words), pointing, putting hand out with palm up, or pairings of these actions. Also referred to as "communicate appropriately"
- Appropriate imitation: When a child tries or successfully imitates the play action, language, or gestures modeled by the adult or video model. Always praise new and independent attempts of good play, social behaviors, or communication.
- Inappropriate behaviors: Crying, whining, protesting, or behaviors that you do not want to see repeated in the future.
- Back button: Only use when you see that your child attempted to imitate or to represent the action for you or your child future.
